Can human activity help speed up nature’s recovery?

Hiilipörssi (Carbon Market)

Before the industrial era, one third of Finland’s surface area consisted of bogs and marshlands. During the past 100 years, many of them have been drained by digging ditches in order to create farmland or to produce timber. This has harmed biodiversity and significantly reduced the number of virgin peatlands.

Hiilipörssi (Carbon Market) is an initiative to restore ditched peatlands in Finland into their natural state. Through buying shares from Hiilipörssi, you directly invest in the restoration and recovery of natural peatlands, and the protection of Finnish natural heritage. Moreover, you support the sequestration of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere into peatlands, Finland’s largest carbon stock.
